Fire disaster: Twelve people die in forest fires in southeastern Turkey

Forest fires are raging in the Kurdish southeast of Turkey Diyarbakir.

Forest fires are raging in the Kurdish southeast of Turkey Diyarbakir. The fire engulfed five villages within a short period of time. Turkish news agencies report twelve deaths.

In its report prepared as a result of its investigations in the fire area between Amed and Mêrdîn, the Urban Protection and Solidarity Platform states: “It was observed that the effects of the damage caused worsened because the fire-fighting operations from the air were delayed.”

The fire that broke out last night between Mêrdîn’s Şemrex (Mazıdağı) district and Amed’s Xana Axpar (Çınar) district left 12 people dead and many animals dead. Although there was no statement from a minister in the first critical hours of the fire, no aerial intervention was made against the fire despite the need for a helicopter. In the morning hours, helicopters hovered over the faded areas.
